DETROIT — General Motors has released a teaser shot of the interior of the 2013 Buick Enclave, which debuts in early April at the 2012 New York Auto Show.

The darkened image shows ambient lighting and what appears to be a curvier cabin that cocoons the front-seat occupants.

GM said the Enclave will feature "industry-exclusive safety technology and modern design updates."

The Enclave is the companion vehicle to the 2013 GMC Acadia, which debuted in February at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show and goes on sale later this year. Presumably, the Enclave also will get the industry's first front center airbag, which was previewed on the Acadia. The Acadia gets new sheet metal, including a revised front fascia and wraparound rear glass, along with new 18- and 19-inch wheels.

GM has said that 2011 was Enclave's best sales year since its introduction five years ago, with nearly 50 percent of all new buyers coming to Buick from competitive brands.

While GM offered little information on the redesigned Enclave, it is expected that the crossover will retain the familiar 3.6-liter V6. The EPA says a 2012 Enclave FWD returns 17 mpg in city driving and 24 mpg on the highway. The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge on Thursday said the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline stood at $3.73, a 35 cent increase from a year ago.
