2013 Nissan Sentra: First Drive Review
The 2013 Nissan Sentra is
offered with one engine and a choice of two transmissions. The engine is a new
1.8-liter 4-cylinder that puts out 130 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. In
the base trim it is paired with 6-speed manual transmission or a continuously
variable automatic. The CVT is standard on all others.
Environmental fuel-economy ratings are 27 mpg city/36 mpg highway with the manual transmission and 30 mpg city/39 mpg highway with the CVT. Buyers can also opt for an FE+ package that improves CVT fuel economy to 30 mpg city/40 mpg highway.

The
new breed of compact cars has raised the bar for interior quality. The new
Sentra hits those heights in some ways and misses in others. The materials are
highlighted by a soft-touch dashboard and padded armrests on the doors. The electroluminescent gauges are also unexpected in a
compact car. Most of the other materials are hard plastic, but that's still
expected in this class.
Nissan
also boasts that the Sentra offers technology beyond its class, including the
NissanConnect system, a Bose audio system and dual-zone automatic climate
control. While all of those features are nice, the other new cars in the
compact class offer similar equipment. NissanConnect features a 5.8-inch touch
screen and a navigation system with real-time traffic and weather information.
It pairs with phones to stream audio via Bluetooth or Pandora Internet radio.
It also reads back text messages and lets drivers respond with predetermined
messages.
The
Sentra offers a lot of interior room for its compact size. The front seats have
plenty of travel so taller drivers can get comfortable, and a standard
tilt/telescoping steering wheel makes it easy to achieve an optimal driving
position. Unfortunately, the driver's seat is too flat to offer any real
support, and the front passenger seat is worse. The rear seat is among the
roomiest in the class. Adult passengers will fit behind adults comfortably.
That's seldom the case with compact cars.

Positive Review on DealerRater!
"Ryan went above and beyond to try and help me get this car I so very much liked. He was professional and friendly the entire time. He even kept checking up with me to make sure that a small problem I had with the car was getting handled. I would recommend Ryan Kiffer to any of my family or friends if they are looking for a new car." -Kenny Ross Ford South customer

Nissan is Awarded First Prize in the 2013 J-Win Diversity Awards
Nissan
Motor Co., Ltd. was awarded the first prize at the 2013 J-Win Diversity Awards,
presented by the Japan Women’s Innovative Network (NPO J-Win), a nonprofit
organization. Nissan won the Special Prize in 2008 and the Second Prize in
2012, making this the third time the company has received an award from NPO
J-Win.
The J-Win Diversity Awards promote diversity and inclusion* as a management strategy for corporations. The awards celebrate companies that set diversity and inclusion – "advancement of women" – as a priority issue, take a proactive approach to continuously promote female leaders, integrate diverse capabilities and ideas, and establish an innovative corporate culture to create new values.
Nissan views diversity as a vital element in its response to global and diversifying customer needs. It believes that becoming a company where women can take a more active role in business also promotes the active utilization of diverse human resources, including men, and contributes to value creation for the company. Therefore, Nissan has implemented various initiatives to promote diversity globally.
In Japan, Nissan has continued its efforts to provide career support for female employees with the goal of increasing the population of women at the decision-making level. As a result, in 2012 the ratio Nissan’s female managers has more than quadrupled from 1.6 percent to 6.7 percent in the past eight years, while the percentage of women in senior managerial positions has doubled from 2 percent to 4 percent in the past four years.
Nissan offers ‘return-to-work seminars’ after childcare leave and has established the third in-house day care center as well as supports networking among younger women. The prize is in recognition of these efforts for improving the work-life balance and proactively provide a work environment for young female employees, who will be the next-generation leaders.
Nissan aims to deepen each employee’s understanding of diversity in order to maximize the value it brings to customers. The company will continue its efforts to grow sustainably while promoting true diversity and inclusion as a strengths of greater competitiveness.

Positive Review on DealerRater!
"The entire experience, from beginning to end, was fantastic. John was great in that he took the process step by step, and never jumped ahead too far in the process. He made the experience very comfortable, especially when it can be intimidating to even enter a dealership." -Kenny Ross Ford South customer

Nissan Celebrates Month of the Family with Irving Students
For the third year in a row, Parents Step Ahead and Nissan are celebrating March as Month of the Family. To kick off the month, they recently hosted a day of community service at four Irving ISD schools to encourage families to be active participants in their schools. Nissan employees based in Irving worked alongside local volunteers to demonstrate the company’s commitment to education and their community.
The event included beautification efforts at Clifton Early Childhood Center, Lee Elementary, Houston Middle and MacArthur High schools. The day started with a rally and breakfast provided by McDonald’s at Houston MS. Then volunteers then started beautification projects at all four schools. This included preparing a butterfly and vegetable garden, creating rain sticks for toddlers, renovating a teacher’s lounge, organizing a student clothing closet and making over a courtyard. More than 350 volunteers pitched in.
Parents Step Ahead is a nonprofit that works with corporations and community organizations to offer programs for parents. Nissan has a division headquartered in Irving.

Monday Tip!
Let's start out week off right with a Monday driving tip!
Sit up straight while driving. Make sure your seat and headrest are adjusted correctly in your vehicle to give you the optimum support. Your legs shouldn't be overstretched to reach the pedals; you should be able to glance up and out at your mirrors with ease.
